Introduction to Projects:

Dr. Zareef Memorial School (ZMS)

From January 1988, ZKF is providing low cost and high quality education to 550 mixed children in the Dr. Zareef Memorial School, Peshawar where 33 local and Afghan female teachers are employed. In 2003 a Pushto literacy and numeracy project funded by zakat donations for thirty Afghan refugee scavenger boys was run at the school in the afternoons under the name and title of Bilqees Begum Literacy Programme (BBLP). She is the widow of Dr. Zareef Khan. Such projects are planned to continue on availability of funds. It is planned that more schools in the city are affiliated under the umbrella of ZMS / ERIC so that their quality is improved in the administrative and teaching sectors.

Education Resource and Information Centre (ERIC)

ERIC is a pioneer non profit project of the Zareef Khan Foundation established in January 1999. ERIC provides basic Teacher Training courses and expands its activities to provide more comprehensive support and training for educators' community members amongst locals in Pakistan (especially in NWFP), Afghan refugees and inside neighbouring Afghanistan.

Preservation Of Environment and Nature (PEN)

Under the PEN programme of ZKF, UNDP/GEF is funding the Malakand Biodiversity Conservation Project which is being jointly implemented by ZKF-UNDP and the NWFP Department of Wildlife. Main emphasis of this project is to conserve the flora and fauna particularly the endangered Kabul Markhor and promote trophy hunting and bird shooting. 80% benefit from ungulates & 90% from bird shoot will go to the community for their welfare works.

As the local tribal communities have decided to prefer the pen over a gun, therefore, immense input in literacy and healthcare promotion is needed. There are government schools and dispensaries in the area without any staff or activity since many years.

Darvesh Builders (DB)

There is a plan that this programme is revived after 18 years and introduce the ancient clay / dome art of construction which is popular in neighbouring Afghanistan and Iran and is ideal for our climatic conditions too for housing and public buildings in rural areas. Clay is the only material used in construction which is 50 - 80 % cheaper then conventional construction at any given time.
